What I value most is the way Creative Alternatives brings people together through creativity. I get to see how creativity sparks joy, connection, and confidence. It’s real, it’s uplifting, and I feel lucky to be part of it.
To boost my wellbeing, I immerse myself in nature— it reminds me that I’m a small part of something big and beautiful and helps me put things in perspective. I love growing things in my little garden, tending to my little patch of earth. I love walking and swimming – the colder and wilder the better! Practicing yoga helps me stay grounded and energized, you can’t beat a good stretch and a yawn! I love unwinding by cooking and can get wonderfully lost in a good book. These simple joys keep me balanced and inspired.
I nurture my creative side by drawing and painting. I find it magical how marks on a surface can become all kinds of wonderful things, how colour can evoke emotion, memories and spark ideas. How things I see can be channelled through me to become something else, something new – I create drawings and paintings to lose myself and find myself at the same time and find deep satisfaction in the process.
Sarah began her work with Creative Alternatives in 2009 and she has maintained a continuous collaboration with the organisation since then. Working closely with fellow Creative Facilitators, Sarah works to develop a diverse range of creative activities for people to engage with. These activities are delivered, alongside mindfulness breathing techniques, in weekly sessions to promote wellbeing, enhance people’s experience, and support their personal development.
Sarah is an experienced artist with extensive work across the health, environmental, and education sectors. She has been commissioned by various organisations, demonstrating a strong focus on collaboration and community engagement within her practice. Her projects include partnerships with hospitals to promote mental health and wellbeing, as well as work with environmental agencies aimed at fostering connections to nature and encouraging environmental stewardship.
She actively exhibits her own artwork and teaches Fine Art at Liverpool Hope University. In addition to her academic role, she offers art classes for both adults and children as a freelance artist. As a curator, she facilitates and organises exhibitions by bringing together artists.
